Nova Chemicals on Thursday began restarting its steam cracker in Corunna, Ontario, after an unplanned shutdown on January 28, the company said Friday.
Restart activities at the 816,466 mt/year steam cracker at the site south of Sarnia and abutting the US-Canadian border are expected to take "the next few days," company spokeswoman Roxann Good said.
Nova Chemicals on January 28 declared force majeure on ethylene, hydrogen and crude C4s shipments from the site following the shutdown.
Ethylene produced at the Corunna site is shipped via pipeline to the company's Moore and St. Clair River sites in Ontario, where it is converted to resin.
Sources say spot polyethylene sales may be impacted into the second quarter, with a buyer source saying shipment delays were possible for contract buyers. But it was unclear what -- if any -- decreases in volumes contract buyers could expect, they said.
