Americas Silver's Galena silver mine complex in Shoshone County, Idaho, was operating normally Thursday after unionized employees rejected Wednesday night the Toronto-based company's "second last, best and final" contract offer, according to a mine employee.
"It's business as usual," said the employee, who asked not to be identified and declined to elaborate.
A source with the United Steelworkers union later confirmed that members of USW Local 5114-03 remained on the job Thursday despite turning down the company's latest labor proposal. The union posted its decision to reject the contract on its Facebook page, but did not disclose vote totals.
"It's kind of up to the company at this point," the union source said, referring to the next move in the labor dispute.
Americas Silver Officials did not return phone calls Thursday afternoon. USW unit chairman Darren McNutt was working in the mine Thursday afternoon and also was unavailable for comment.
Galena has produced more than 230 million oz of silver and associated byproduct copper and lead over the past 50 years.
