The average US retail price for regular gasoline dropped by 9.2 cents to $3.509/gal in the survey week ending Monday, according to Energy Information Administration data.
The national average is 81.5 cents higher than a year ago.
Retail prices fell in all US regions, with the biggest declines in the Midwest and Gulf Coast. The Midwest average fell 14.3 cents to $3.432/gal and the Gulf Coast average tumbled 10.3 cents to $3.309/gal, the EIA data show. The East Coast average dropped 7.9 cents to $3.507/gal.
The West Coast average remained the highest at $3.827/gal, after a 2.9-cent dip.
Rocky Mountain retail prices shed 2.5 cents to average $3.576/gal.
EIA each Monday publishes average US retail prices for all three grades of gasoline. The data is collected by telephone from a sample of 900 retail gasoline outlets. The reported price includes all taxes and is the pump price paid by a consumer as of 8 a.m. EDT Monday.
