Brazilian total imports of carbon sheet steel in October slumped 25.7% year over year to 49,629 mt from 66,816 mt in the year-ago period, data from MDIC, the country's foreign trade ministry, showed Monday.
Hot-rolled coil imports in October totaled 3,114 mt, a 72.3% plummet from 11,257 mt imported in the same month a year ago while imports of hot-dip galvanized sheet steel fell 38.8% to 22,201 mt from 36,273 mt a year ago.
But imports of cold-rolled coil rose 26% to 24,314 mt from 19,286 mt in October 2016.
October's Brazilian imports were valued at a combined $30.37 million FOB, MDIC said. Imports of HRC were valued at $1.66 million FOB, while CRC imports were valued at $13.31 million FOB. The value of imported HDG was $15.4 million FOB, it said.
Brazil's imports in the first 10 months of 2017 reached 541,745 mt, up 123.1% from 242,750 mt imported in the same period a year ago. The value of the imports spiked 166.9% to $318.92 million FOB from $119.46 million FOB.
