Brazil's exports of galvalume (aluminum/zinc-coated steel sheet) in October spiked 456.5% year on year to 23,639 mt, Ministry of Development and Foreign Trade data showed Thursday.
These exports were valued at $18.38 million FOB, up 402.5% from $3.66 million FOB in October 2016.
Argentina was the main destination in October (11,896 mt), at an average of $777.11/mt FOB, followed by the US (10,616 mt), at an average of $771.9/mt FOB.
Over January-October 2017, Brazil's galvalume exports totaled 111,110 mt, up 32.4% from the 83,944 mt exported in the same period in 2016.
Meanwhile imports of the product grew 4.4% year on year to 12,404 mt from 11,875 mt in October 2016.
China supplied nearly all the imports during the month (99.6%) at an average price of $673.3/mt FOB.
October's galvalume imports were valued at $8.35 million FOB, up 27% from a year ago, when imports were valued at $6.58 million FOB.
During the January-October period, imports were up 113.4% year on year to 202,208 mt from 94,766 mt, valued at $138.13 million FOB, up 167.2% from $51.69 million FOB.
