Peruvian steel production in September increased 14.5% year on year but dipped 2.3% from August, data from Peru's National Institute of Statistics, or Inei, showed Thursday.
The institute provides only percentage changes, and no volume data.
Inei's basic iron and steel industries index takes into account blast furnace operations, steel conversion, rolling mills and the production of pig iron, ingots and ferroalloys, as well as rolled products such as angles, sections, bars and rebar.
Peru has two steelmakers, both focused on long products: Aceros Arequipa, a 1.3 million mt/year electric arc furnace-based operation, and Siderperu, which has nominal capacity to produce 650,000 mt/year of crude steel through an EAF and 520,000 mt/year of rolled bar and rebar. It also has an idled 400,000 mt/year blast furnace.
