Brazilian imports of flat-rolled stainless steel in October spiked 89.2% year on year to 4,965 mt, Ministry of Development and Foreign Trade data showed Thursday.
October's imports were valued at $9.53 million FOB. A year earlier, the 2,624 mt imported was valued at $4.84 million FOB.
South Africa, with 2,013 mt, was the leading exporter to Brazil last month followed by the US, with 870 mt. China was third, sending 397 mt.
In the period from January through October, Brazil's flat-rolled stainless steel imports jumped 38.5% year on year to 39,959 mt. In the same period a year ago, imports totaled 28,854 mt.
The cumulative value of the imports in 2017 was $85.96 million FOB, compared with $54.49 million FOB in the same period last year.
