Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan) Co. Ltd. plans to start up its new 1.5 million mt/year purified terephthalic acid plant in Taiwan's Taoyuan next week, after receiving approval from local authorities to do so, a source close to the company said Tuesday.
The plant would initially carry out trial runs, the source said.
Commissioning of the plant was completed earlier in October, S&P Global Platts reported previously.
OPTC operates two other PTA plants at Taoyuan -- the 400,000 mt/year No. 1 plant and 500,000 mt/year No. 2 plant.
Although company officials previously said the 400,000 mt/year plant would be shut permanently when new plant began operations, the source said this would depend on market conditions.
