September chlorine production in the EU, Norway and Switzerland rose 4% year on year to 778,518 mt, industry body EuroChlor said Tuesday.
Average daily production stood at 25,951 mt, up 4.0% year on year.
Capacity utilization reached 79.2% in September, up from 77.2% in September 2016, but still the lowest rate since March.
Caustic soda stocks in Europe in September stood at 197,839 mt, down from 208,400 mt in August and 222,121 mt in September 2016.
Caustic soda FOB Rotterdam spot prices rose in September, moving from $490/mt on September 5 to $560/mt on September 26, amid low stocks. Prices were assessed last Tuesday at $650/mt FOB NWE, the highest since March 2009.
Caustic soda is a byproduct of chlorine production.
