India's state-run coal miner Singareni Collieries Company Limited or SCCL said Wednesday its coal output fell 14% year on year to 4.04 million mt in October, below target of 5.75 million mt for the month.
Output over April-October totaled 31.83 million mt, below target of 35 million mt, but up 3% year on year, latest company data showed.
Shipments in October totaled 5.1 million mt, up 9% year on year, and over April-October totaled 35.05 million mt, up 12% year on year but below target of 36.02 million mt, the data showed.
SCCL is India's second largest coal producer after Coal India Limited and is 51:49 owned by the government of Telangana and India's central government.
SCCL posted output of 61.34 million mt for the 2016-17 fiscal year ended March 31, and it has set a target of raising output to 100 million mt in fiscal 2019-20.
The company operates 30 underground mines and 16 open-cast mines. It supplies around 66% of its coal to power utilities in India and the balance to cement, captive power, sponge iron and other customers in India.
