LyondellBasell plans to lift the force majeure on all grades of polyethylene produced at four Texas plants effective November 1, the company said in a letter to customers dated Thursday and obtained by S&P Global Platts.
LyondellBasell produces PE via its subsidiary Equistar Chemicals. It did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the letter.
The company issued a force majeure on all grades of PE produced at its Matagorda, Victoria, Chocolate Bayou and La Porte plants, effective August 28, just three days after Hurricane Harvey made landfall along the Texas Gulf Coast.
The Chocolate Bayou plant is in Alvin, Texas, and can produce up to 397 million lb/year of high density PE, according to Platts Analytics data. Matagorda has annual HDPE capacity of 1.532 billion lb. The Victoria complex produces 440 million lb/year of HDPE, and the La Porte facility produces 783 million lb/year of linear low-density PE and 1.223 billion lb/year of low-density PE.
