US ethanol RINs generated in September totaled 1.227 billion, down by 98.68 million RINs, or 7.44%, from August, Environmental Protection Agency data showed Thursday.
September generation of biomass-based diesel (D4) RINs fell by 49.63 million RINs, or 13.04%, to 330 million RINs.
Advanced biofuel (D5) RINs generation fell by 11.45 million RINs, or 40.65%, to 16.72 million RINs.
Cellulosic biofuel (D3) RINs generated decreased by 1.246 million RINs, or 6.19%, to 21.36 million RINs.
Total RINs generation came in at 1.596 billion RINs in September, a drop of 158 million RINs, or 9.85%, from August.
The EPA issues RINs to track renewable fuel usage throughout the supply chain. Refiners, importers and blenders -- called obligated parties -- use them to show the EPA that they have fulfilled their mandated government use of renewable fuels. If the obligated party has not used enough physical product, it can buy RINs to satisfy the quota.
