Mexico's ministry of economy has extended for another six months a temporary 15% tariff imposed on imports of several steel products, according to a notice published Tuesday in the country's official gazette.
The tariff was first imposed in October 2015 and has been regularly renewed since then. The latest extension is valid from the following day of publication in the gazette.
The products subject to the measure are steel slabs, plates, hot- and cold-rolled coils and wire rods.
"With the absence of conditions for healthy competition between the steel industries of different countries, it is necessary and urgent to re-establish an increase in the import tariff for the steel products," the ministry said in the notice.
