Ethanol RINs generated in August fell by 52.54 million RINs, or 4.12%, compared to July, when it was 1.326 billion RINs, US Environmental Protection Agency data showed Thursday.

Meanwhile, advanced biofuel (D5) RIN generation rose by 22.86 million RINs, or 430.34%, to 28.18 million RINs generated.
Cellulosic biofuel (D3) RINs generated decreased by 241,818 RINs, or 1.18%, to 20.11 million RINs generated.
Total RINs generation was at 1.755 billion RINs, up 84.3 million RINs, or 5.04% from July.
The EPA issues RINs to track renewable fuel usage throughout the supply chain. Refiners, importers and blenders -- called obligated parties -- use them to show the EPA that they have fulfilled their mandated government use of renewable fuels. If the obligated party has not used enough physical product, it can buy RINs to satisfy the quota.
