European metal scrap recycler and exporter European Metal Recycling said it has bought UK scrap merchant and processor Metal and Waste Recycling.
"The two companies have many similar cultural values so we believe the acquisition process will go very smoothly. We are maintaining a 'business as usual' approach during the transition to minimize any impact for our employees and customers," it said.
MWR operates 12 sites across the UK that process over 800,000 mt of ferrous and non-ferrous material.
A trader working in the UK domestic market estimated they produced around 8,000-10,000 mt of shredded grade ferrous material per month.
EMR previously bought five scrap metal processing yards from UK company Sita, as it exited the market in 2013.
