The UK imported 156,726 mt of thermal coal in June, the lowest amount since January, according to customs data received late Thursday.
The June total was down 35% from May but up 102% from the year-ago month, which was the lowest monthly total since S&P Global Platts began tracking imports in January 2012.
Through June, the UK's coal imports total 1.97 million mt, down 5.4% from the year-ago period.
Coal imports have been low since the UK doubled its Carbon Price Support mechanism in April 2015, which decreased the competitiveness of coal.
Russia originated the most coal shipped to the UK in June, at 91,305 mt; followed by Venezuela, at 44,129 mt; and the Netherlands, at 14,492 mt.
