Mobarakeh Steel Co's hot rolled coil exports to the EU have fallen sharply following reports the 28-nation bloc plans to impose a 23% anti-dumping duty, the Iranian Steel Producers' Association (ISPA) said.
Only 34,000 mt of HRC were exported by Iran in the first three months of the current Iranian year (to June 21), which was 93% lower year on year.
Exports of cold rolled coils fell 94% to 4,000 mt.
The EU opened its anti-dumping investigation in July 2016.
MSC has cut its exports of HRC to Europe and elsewhere since January in order to supply domestic downstream industries' requirements, according to Moji Khojasteh, a London-based trader who mainly exports Iranian steel to Europe.
At the moment, Iran's main export is steel slab, not coil, he said.
Iran prefers to export more semi-finished products.
Only 300,000 mt of finished steel products were exported in the first three months of the Iranian year, according ISPA, 58% lower year on year.
In contrast, 1.69 million mt of semi-finished products were exported during the three months, up 67%.
Iran intends to increase its total steel exports to eight million mt in the current Iranian year to March 2018, about 50% more than in the previous year, and to 15 million mt/year during the Iranian year ending in 2021.
