Brazilian imports of carbon steel sheet in June jumped 225.9% to 51,186 mt from 15,706 mt a year earlier, data from the foreign trade ministry (MDIC) showed Monday.
Hot-rolled coil imports totaled 3,809 mt, down 59% from 9,290 mt imported in the same month a year ago.
Imports of cold-rolled coil climbed 538.8% to 27,543 mt from 4,325 mt in June 2016, while imports of hot-dip galvanized sheet soared 848.1% to 19,834 mt from 2,092 mt.
Total June imports were valued at $32.44 million FOB, MDIC said. Imports of HRC were valued at $2.37 million FOB and CRC imports were valued at $16.27 million FOB. The value of imported HDG was $13.79 million FOB.
Imports in the first half reached 313,187 mt, up 171.7% from 115,243 mt imported in the same period in 2016. The value of imports grew 241.5% to $181.5 million FOB, from $53.15 million FOB.
