Taiwan imported 6.24 million mt of thermal coal in April, down 1% on the year but up 17% from March to a six-month high, customs data showed Friday.
During the first four months of 2017, Taiwan imported 22.24 million mt of thermal coal, up 7% on the year.
Imports of Australian thermal coal dropped 15% on the year, but rose 18% from March's 14-month low to 2.7 million mt, remaining the largest supplier to Taiwan.
Shipments from Indonesia also fell 5% on the year to 1.87 million mt, but rose 43% from the month before to the highest level since October 2016.
Russian imports at 1.1 million mt were the highest since S&P Global Platts records began in January 2012, rising 33% on the year and 10% from March.
Canadian coal volumes at 266,343 mt increased 88% on the year, while shipments from South Africa were at 164,765 mt, up from nothing a year ago, but down 47% from March's three-month high.
