Japan's ethylene production in May fell 2.5% from April to 535,900 mt, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said late Tuesday.
Year on year, ethylene production was up 5.8%.
A month-on-month decline was due to Asahi Kasei Mitsubishi Chemical Ethylene Corp. shutting its naphtha-fed steam cracker at Mizushima on May 10 for annual maintenance. The cracker is due to restart July 3.
The cracker can produce 495,000 mt/year of ethylene and 320,000 mt/year of propylene.
