Russian petrochemical maker Sibur said Tuesday it has signed a special investment contract with the authorities of Russia's Perm Krai region to build a 100,000 mt/year dioctyl terephthalate plant.
Production is slated to launch in 2019.
DOTP is a phthalate-free plasticizer used in cables, flooring and roof coatings and other materials for the construction industry.
Production will use Sibur's own feedstocks and is seen as the next step in Sibur's added-value chain.
Russia has a basic plasticizers deficit of 60,000 mt/year, which is mainly filled by European supplies. As such, the new production will not only substitute imports, but also leave some volumes for exports.
"The project is yet another step down the import substitution path in Russia's petrochemical industry," said Dmitry Konov, chairman of Sibur's management board.
