The Louisiana Offshore Oil Port said Monday it has not resumed discharging crude from oil tankers because the weather remains bad due to Tropical Storm Lee.
"We have not resumed offloading tankers as the weather remains bad," spokeswoman Barb Hestermann said.
LOOP suspended tanker discharges early Friday as Lee approached the southern Louisiana coastline.
LOOP, however, continued to supply crude to its customers from its onshore facilities throughout this period, Hestermann added.
LOOP currently has total storage capacity of 60 million barrels, with the 7.2 million above-ground barrels in Clovelly and the remaining 52.8 million barrels of storage capacity below ground.
The LOOP port facility is 18 miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana, in 110 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico and is the only US port capable of handling VLCCs.
