Mexico's ministry of economy has extended the validity of a temporary 15% tariff imposed on imports of several steel products for another six months, according to a notice published Thursday in the country's official gazette.
The tariff was first imposed in October 2015 and has been regularly renewed since then. The latest extension is valid from the day of publication in the gazette.
The products subject to the measure are steel slabs, plates, hot- and cold-rolled coils and wire rods.
The ministry said the temporary tariff aims to "provide the necessary space for the national steel industry to have the opportunity to integrate its defense, in full compliance with the instruments provided by the national legal framework and international commitments in this area."
