Peruvian steelmakers produced 91,527 mt of rebar in December, up 0.8% year on year, National Institute of Statistics (Inei) data showed Friday.
On a month-on-month basis, rebar production increased 2.6% from 89,210 mt in November, the Inei data showed.
In 2016, Peruvian steelmakers produced 1.13 million mt of rebar, up 4.8%.
Shipments increased 1.2% in December to 101,804 mt from 100,623 mt in December 2015. Shipments decreased 15.9% from November's 121,055 mt.
In the January-December period, Peruvian producers shipped 1.30 million mt of rebar, compared with the 1.31 million mt shipped in 2015.
Peru's rebar market is primarily supplied by domestic longs producers, including Gerdau's Siderperu unit, which has bar, rebar and wire rod rolling capacity of 1 million mt/year, and Aceros Arequipa, which can produce up to 1.3 million mt/year of bar, rebar, wire rod and profiles.
Rebar imports, mainly from Turkey, also are part of the domestic consumption mix.
