The US Defense Logistics Agency has sold 151 st of low-carbon ferrochrome from the national stockpile in the month of January at a single sale held on January 31, the agency said Tuesday.
The DLA reported the sale in a notice on its website. The sale was made under the agency's Basic Ordering Agreement program and is the first such sale under BOA since last August.
The ferrochrome was valued at $366,000 and went to a single buyer, the identity of which was not disclosed. The DLA only publishes the names of buyers when an award has been made to more than one.
The DLA did not give any detail on the chemistry of the ferrochrome sold.
On Tuesday, the DLA also offered 1,000 st of high-carbon ferrochrome (65.03% Cr, 5.9% C) for sale, located in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, in a new sale. The DLA said it is seeking bids for a minimum quantity of 162.57 st of chrome contained.
The agency also offered 1.4 million lb (700 st) of low-carbon ferrochrome (66.2% Cr, 0.15% C), and is seeking bids for a minimum quantity of 185,360 lb of chrome contained. The material is located in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
Additionally, the DLA offered 399,399 lb from another stockpile of low-carbon ferrochrome (68.77% Cr, 0.13% C) and is seeking minimum bids for the full quantity. This material is also located in Point Pleasant.
All the ferrochrome is being offered under the BOA program and bids are due by 2pm EST on Wednesday, the DLA's notice said.
Buyers of DLA material are responsible for removing it, cleaning and sizing it before it can be sold on to consumers. Most of the DLA's strategic stockpiles of bulk ferroalloys, including ferrochrome, have been stored in the open and many of the stockpiles have been stored that way over many decades.
