The amount of biodiesel (FAME) supplied in the UK from April-October was 9.6% higher year on year at 398 million liters, according to UK Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation data Thursday.

Bioethanol supply was down 6.1% to 386 million liters in the same period.

The trends can be partly attributed to diesel versus gasoline consumption patterns -- diesel supply in the UK totaled 14,587 million liters from April-October, up 3% year on year, while gasoline supply was down 1% to 8,330 million liters, the RTFO data showed.

Current returns showed 803 million liters of renewable fuel were supplied in the period, 457 million liters of which met sustainability requirements.

Of this 457 million liters, 67% was made from waste/non-agricultural residue(double counting) feedstock.

According to RTFO, UK feedstocks accounted for 34% of the biofuels, with the most widely reported source for biodiesel being cooking oil from the UK (65 million liters), while bioethanol was mostly made from UK wheat (54 million liters).

An aggregate greenhouse gas saving of 78% compared with fossil fuels was achieved in the period. Including emissions from indirect land-use change reduces this to 70%.
