Dow Chemical is in the final stages of restarting its low-density polyethylene line in Argentina -- the only domestic source of LDPE in the country -- and could have commercial product available this quarter, a company source said Wednesday.
"The [LDPE] plant is continuing to go through the normal startup process and undergoing the final tests," the source said. "The expectation is to have product available in the first quarter of 2017."
Dow Chemical confirmed restarting the 90,000 mt/year LDPE line on January 3 following a nearly 14-month shutdown stemming from a November 2015 explosion at the plant.
The company originally planned to restart the line in December and to have prime resin available within two weeks, a company source previously said.
No further details were provided and a company spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
