Venezuela's hot-briquetted iron producer Briquetera del Caroni increased production 72% during 2016, the company said Thursday.
According to data from the producer, its output in 2016 was 127,490 mt of HBI, while in 2015 the company produced 73,958 mt.
All material produced during 2016 was exported, the company said said.
The output represents 14.2% of the company's installed capacity of 900,000 mt/year.
Operations at the company, formerly Venprecar, were intermittent in the second half of 2015 and resumed in February 2016.
The company started maintenance on its equipment in October 2016 to be completed during January. Around $3 million is being spent on the maintenance -- the first in the past six years.
