October US brass mill imports decreased and exports increased from the year-ago month, Copper & Brass Fabricators Council data showed Tuesday.
Imports of brass mill products totaled 38.6 million lb compared with 36.7 million lb in October 2015, an increase of 5%, the Washington-based trade group said in a report.
Brass mill exports totaled 22.4 million lb in October, up from about 20.3 million lb in October 2015, an increase of more than 10.5%.
Year to date through October, US brass mill imports totaled 384.7 million lb compared with 417.7 million lb year to date through October 2015, a decrease of nearly 8%.
Brass mill exports year to date through October totaled 203.5 million lb, compared with 208.8 million lb in the same 2015 period, a decrease of about 2.5%, the CBFC said.
Mexico was the leading destination for US exports of brass mill products in October, at about 8.8 million lb, followed by Canada at 5.7 million lb, South Korea at 2.5 million lb, China at 1.1 million lb and Saudi Arabia at 633,908 lb.
Imports from Germany in October 2016 totaled nearly 10.7 million lb, followed by Canada at 3.9 million lb, Mexico at 3.8 million lb, South Korea at 3.3 million lb, and Peru at 2.1 million lb, according to the CBFC.
October imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled just over 15 million lb, while exports of those products totaled 9.6 million lb.
Imports of all pipe and tube products in October totaled 13.2 million lb, while pipe and tube exports totaled 3.8 million lb, the CBFC said.
October imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 7.1 million lb, while exports totaled 7.3 million lb.
Imports of copper alloy wire totaled 3.2 million lb in October, while exports totaled 1.6 million lb, according to CBFC data.
Brass mill products are widely used in building construction, automotive products and in electronic and electrical applications.
