Austria-based chemicals group Borealis has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Algerian industrial group Asmidal to jointly develop a melamine production project in the North African nation.
A feasibility study for this project will be carried out in the coming months, with a final investment decision expected to be taken next year.
Borealis is the second largest producer of melamine in Europe and a leading provider in the fields of polyolefins, base chemicals and fertilisers.
The firm announced a ?0m (£31m) investment to upgrade its steam cracker in Porvoo, Finland in June.
