US petcoke stocks totaled 983,303 mt in September, down nearly 5% year over year despite increased production, the US Energy Information Administration's Electric Power Monthly data shows.
Stocks fell as exports, largely to India, increased to 3.6 million mt, according to the EIA data. Exports were 14.1% higher from the year-ago month.
Production totaled 3.8 million in September, up 10.2% from the year-ago month. The bulk of the production increase came from the US Gulf Coast, which increased production 8.8% to 2.2 million mt.
USGC exports totaled 2.7 million mt, up 18.5% from the year-ago month, according to the EIA data. Imports were down 53% to 27,949 mt while USGC petcoke consumption increased nearly five-fold to 465,880 mt.
US West Coast production totaled 618,693 mt during the month, down 3% from the year-ago month while exports also declined nearly 7% to 708,348 mt.
West Coast imports totaled 3,630 mt, down 20%, and consumption totaled nearly 51,000 mt, down nearly 70%.
