Ridley coal, petcoke exports down 37% on year through Oct: terminal

Coal and petroleum coke exports from the Ridley Terminals in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, totaled 378,123 mt in October, down 43% from the year-ago month and down 37.7% year to date, the latest terminal data shows.

The October data shows metallurgical coal starting to recover over the last two months as benchmark pricing has skyrocketed.

Met coal exports totaled 156,096 mt in October, up 74% from the year-ago month, but totaled 1.6 million mt on a year-to-date basis, down 73% from 2015.

Thermal coal exports totaled 82,200 mt in October, a drop of 83% from the year-ago month. Year-to-date thermal coal exports totaled 1.6 million mt, up 4% from 2015.

Petroleum coke exports totaled 139,827 mt, up 59% from the year-ago month, and up 1% year to date.

Wood pellets totaled 80,130 mt, up 15% from the year-ago month. Year-to-date wood pellet exports totaled 752,827 mt, up 19% from the prior year.
