Natural gas production in Pennsylvania's portion of the Marcellus Shale in the first six months of 2011 rose to 1.87 Bcf/d, 22% above that in the second half of 2010, the state's Department of Environmental Protection said Tuesday.
Oil production from the Marcellus grew 1,867% from 5 b/d in the second half of 2010 to 9,338 b/d as producers moved to capture more oil and liquids. Actual condensate production, however, fell 9% to 2,721 b/d over the first six months of the year.
Nearly all the oil production came from wells in the southwestern part of the state near Pittsburgh, while the majority of condensate production shifted to the northeast portion of the state above Wilkes Barre-Scranton, the DEP said.
Because the DEP only recently began compiling production figures, year-on-year comparisons are not available.
