Huntsman has shut an ethylene oxide unit at its Port Neches, Texas, plant due to a leak, the company has reported.
A leaking gasket on an outlet valve forced the Wednesday shutdown of the unit after a release of ethylene and ethylene oxide, according to a filing by Huntsman with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality seen by S&P Global Platts on Friday.
"Due to the location of the valve, it was necessary to shut down the F6 EO Unit to mitigate the leak and initiate repairs to the leaking component," Huntsman said.
Huntsman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The incident should have a minimal impact on the EO and derivative monoethylene glycol markets, a market source said Friday.
"I'm hearing it should be two days at the most," the source said.
Huntsman has an MEG capacity of roughly 280,000 mt/year at the Port Neches site.
The facility had been running at "target rates," the company said earlier this month after encountering issues at the site on September 20.
