Tokyo Gas's gas sales rose 5.2% year on year to 1.18 Bcm in September, its highest-ever September volume, thanks to strong sales to power generators, with warmer temperatures pushing up demand for air-conditioning, the gas utility said Wednesday.
The previous record sales for September was booked last year at 1.12 Bcm, according to Tokyo Gas.
Sales to the industrial sector were 626.239 million cubic meters in September, jumping 6.7% from a year ago, with demand from power generators rising. Sales to the commercial sector also surged 13.7% year on year to 236.233 million cu m in September, as demand for air-conditioning increased.
The average temperature in Tokyo Gas's service area was 26 degrees Celsius in September, compared with 24 degrees Celsius a year ago.
Demand for hot water, on the other hand, dropped, and sales to the household sector fell 2.2% year on year to 137.239 million cu m in September, while wholesale supply to other gas utilities fell to 180.138 million cu m, down 3.5% from a year earlier.
Tokyo Gas said it has sold a total of 7.12 Bcm of city gas in the April-September period, 0.4% more than in the same period a year ago.
