French petrochemical company Arkema and Korean bio-science company CJ Cheil-Jedang have chosen the site of Kerteh, in the state of Terengganu in Malaysia, to build a bio-methionine plant and a thiochemicals plant.

Both are used in the manufacture of animal feed.

The plants are expected to start operating at the end of 2013, according to a company statement.

The joint venture will be on the east coast of Malaysia where all the necessary infrastructure, utilities and raw materials can be easily obtained

The on site bulk port and the nearby Kuantan and Kemaman container ports will facilitate the product transport logistics.

CJ Cheil-Jedang, a Korean based food, feed, and bio-science company, produces fermentation-based products such as feed amino acids, MSG, and nucleotides with global manufacturing and business operations.

France's Arkema produces industrial chemicals including acrylic monomers, emulsion systems, fluorochemicals, functional additives, hydrogen peroxide, PMMA, technical polymers and thiochemicals. It has operations in more than 40 countries and had annual revenue of Eur5.9 billion in 2010.
