Monthly production of biodiesel was 2 million gallons higher at 135 million gallons in June, with 68% of production coming from the Midwest region, up 2 percentage points from May, US Energy Information Administration data showed Thursday.
Of the 980 million pounds of feedstocks used to produce biodiesel in June, 52.95% of product was soybean oil, down by more than 3 percentage points from May, the EIA said.
Soybean oil remained the largest biodiesel feedstock, with 519 million lbs consumed, the EIA said in its latest monthly biodiesel production report.
The next three largest biodiesel feedstocks were canola oil grease (112 million lbs), yellow grease (112 million lbs), and corn oil (103 million lbs), according to the EIA.
Producer sales of biodiesel during June included 68 million gallons sold as B100 (100% biodiesel) and an additional 72 million gallons of B100 sold in biodiesel blends with diesel fuel derived from petroleum, the EIA said.
Production came from 95 biodiesel plants with an annual production capacity of 2.1 billion gal/year, according to the EIA.
