Combined coal stocks held by China's six key power generators in southern and eastern China -- Zhejiang Power, Shanghai Power, Guangdong Power (Yudean), Guodian, Datang and Huaneng -- averaged 10.277 million mt over the week ended on August 16, down by 5.9% week on week, according to a weekly report by Qinhuangdao Port on Thursday.
The stocks are able to last for an average of 14.39 days of consumption at the six power generators, down by 1.07 days on week, the report said.
Average coal consumption at the six power generators stood at 714,600 mt/day in the week to August 16, up by 1.0% week on week, figures show.
High temperatures in southern and eastern China resulted in higher coal consumption rates at the power plants, hence lower coal stocks, the report said, adding that coal consumption at the power plants may continue at a high level until September.
