Colombian output of gold, silver, nickel and coal all rose in the second quarter from a year ago, while platinum production fell, the government said Friday.
Nickel output rose 11.5% year on year to 21.1 million lb at the Cerro Matoso mine, owned by BHP Billiton spin-off South32, from 18.9 million lb a year earlier, the National Mining Agency said in a statement.
Colombia's coal output increased by 3% to 23.1 million mt in the quarter from 22.4 million mt a year earlier, the agency said. Colombia is Latin America's largest coal producer.
Gold production climbed 1.2% to 525,592 oz from 519,471 oz a year earlier, according to the agency. Silver production jumped 29.4% to 94,496 oz from 73,007 oz a year earlier, while platinum fell 30.7% to 6,416 oz from 9,261 oz, the agency said.
