The North American net new aluminum mill order index for July decreased 2.5% year on year, the Aluminum Association said Monday.
New mill orders were off 9.9% compared with June, and the year-to-date index is up 0.6% year on year, the trade group said.
July heat-treatable sheet orders decreased 2.3% year on year and were off 29.2% compared with June, the trade association said. July non-heat treatable sheet orders rose 4.2% compared with July 2015, and decreased 3.5% compared with June.
July plate orders were up 10.3% year on year, but down 26.4% from June, the data show.
July orders of extruded products were down 12% compared with the year-ago period, and down 13.6% compared with the prior month.
The Aluminum Association said July foil orders increased 6.8% year on year, and fell 7.1% compared with June.
Orders of domestic can stock fell 5.3% year on year, and were off 6.8% compared with June. July orders of export can stock increased 19.2% year on year and 5.9% compared with the previous month.
The index is based on reports of new orders, minus cancellations, received by 21 participants for the period. Data in the report are neither seasonally adjusted nor adjusted to account for work days.
