Low density polyethylene contract prices rolled over in the first week of August on the back of muted activity due to the holiday period, sources said this week.

LDPE contract prices closed Wednesday at Eur1,460/mt ($1,625).

This was in spite of the August ethylene contract price settling Eur20/mt lower.

The market is expected to lengthen through August, according to some sources, due to the holidays.

Versalis has also restarted its Ragusa site in Sicily but the force majeure on its Riblene low density polyethylene and Greenflex ethylene vinyl acetate products from the plant will remain in place for a few more weeks, a source close to the company said Tuesday.

"All lines have started up and are working, but force majeure is still there as we have to restock," he said.

Versalis was not immediately available for comment. The Ragusa site has a low density polyethylene capacity of 160,000 mt/year.
