CME Group's metals trading volume averaged 503,000 contracts/day in July, up 32% from 381,000 contracts/day in July 2015, the US exchange group said Tuesday.
The total figure included record metals futures average daily volume of 465,000 contracts, up 38% on the year.
Gold futures ADV rose 41% to 296,000 contracts, with silver futures up 62% to 74,000 contracts, CME said, adding that it achieved three consecutive open interest records in gold futures, which surpassed 655,000 contracts at the end of July, up 13% from year-end 2015.
Copper futures and options ADV rose 18% year-on-year, while CME said it also saw "continued momentum" in its aluminum products suite, which has open interest surpassing 42,000 contracts.
CME's suite of metals products includes precious metals (gold, silver, platinum and palladium), base metals (copper, aluminum, aluminum alloy, zinc and lead) and ferrous metals (iron ore, ferrous scrap, hot rolled coil and steel billet).
