Japan LNG buyers paid an average of $4.50/MMBtu for spot cargoes delivered in June, up for the first time since January this year and 4.7% higher from May, data released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed Monday.

METI publishes two sets of prices a month, the average delivery price and the simple average of contract prices, which it did not publish for June.

The simple average of contract prices transacted in a given month is calculated by METI, which gathers data from utilities and other LNG buyers in the country.

The delivery months for the cargoes were not disclosed.

METI did not announce the simple average of contract prices for June due to a lack of reported trades. In May, the average of contract prices was $4.10/MMBtu, according to the METI.

The Platts JKM delivery for June averaged $4.461/MMBtu.

The assessment period started on April 18 when JKM stood at $4/MMBtu and ended on May 13 when it was assessed at $4.50/MMBtu.

JKM also averaged at $5.138/MMBtu during June, reflecting spot deals for delivery in July and August to Japan and South Korea.
