CME Group's metals trading volume averaged 483,000 contracts/day in June, up 45% from 333,000 contracts/day in June 2015, the US exchange group said Tuesday.
Gold futures average daily volume was up 76% on the year at 230,000 contracts/day, while silver futures average daily volume was up 22% on the year at 84,000 contracts/day, CME said.
Copper futures and options average daily volume was up 31% year-on-year at 98,000 contracts/day in June.
For the second quarter of 2016, CME's metals trading volume averaged 468,000 contracts/day, up 41% from 331,000 contracts/day in the year-earlier period.
CME's suite of metals products includes precious metals (gold, silver, platinum and palladium), base metals (copper, aluminum, aluminum allot, zinc and lead) and ferrous metals (iron ore, ferrous scrap, hot rolled coil and steel billet).
