Switzerland-based chemicals group Ineos said Thursday it is to supply a range of technologies to China-based counterpart Qingdao Haijing for the production of vinyl chloride monomer and suspension polyvinyl chloride for two new plants, which are due to start production in 2013.
"Qingdao Haijing has set a very clear strategy to become a leading vinyls player in China," said Ineos Technologies CEO Peter Williams.
The first plant will produce 400,000 mt/year of VCM using pyrolysis of ethylene dichloride. The EDC will be produced using high and low temperature chlorination and by applying Ineos' two-stage fixed-bed oxychlorination process.
The second plant will produce a full range of suspension polyvinyl chloride from VCM at a rate of 300,000 mt/year. The plant will use Ineos' suspension process, including using proprietary PVC additives and recipes.
The two plants are to be located in the Dongjia-kou Pro port industrial zone in Qingdao, China.
