Ukraine's output of manganese ferroalloys in April was 14.3% higher year on year at 90,200 mt, and up from the 86,000 mt produced in March, UkrFa, an association of Ukrainian ferroalloy producers, said Friday.
Ukraine produced 76,800 mt of silicomanganese (SiMn) in April, up from 65,200 mt in April 2015. Ferrosilicon (FeSi) output increased to 8,700 mt from 6,900 mt, while production of ferromanganese (FeMn) fell to 4,000 mt from 6,100 mt.
Output of metallic manganese was unchanged year on year at 700 mt.
In the January through April period, Ukraine's output of ferroalloy fell 1.8% year on year to 318,900 mt, the association said. Production of SiMn totalled 258,300 mt, down from 263,700 mt a year ago, while FeMn output fell to 26,000 mt from 28,700 mt. Production of FeSi rose to 32,400 mt from 28,700 mt, and output of metallic manganese fell to 2,200 mt from 3,700 mt.
Ukraine's biggest ferroalloy smelter, Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant (NFP), produced 65,900 mt of ferroalloy in April, up from 55,100 mt a year ago.
In January-April the company produced 233,100 mt of ferroalloys, up 4%.
Output of SiMn increased to 221,800 mt in the first four months, compared with 215,900 mt in January-April 2015, while production of FeMn rose to 11,300 mt from 8,300 mt.
Zaporizhia Ferroalloy Plant (ZFP), the country's No. 2 ferroalloy producer, increased ferroalloy output 1.3% year on year to 24,300 mt in April, meaning production in the first four months of the year was down 14.8% to 85,800 mt.
It produced 36,500 mt of SiMn, down 23.6% year on year. Output of FeMn fell 28.3% to 14,700 mt, but production of FeSi increased 12.9% to 32,400 mt. ZFP also produced 2,200 mt of metallic manganese in the period, down from 3,700 mt.
Ukraine, one of the world's biggest ferroalloy producers and exporters, had 886,400 mt output of manganese ferroalloy last year, down 18.5%.
