Exelon Generation's 1,246-MW Limerick-2 nuclear power unit in Limerick, Pennsylvania, shut at 9 am EDT (1300 GMT) Wednesday "due to an electrical component malfunction that impacted the operation of recirculating water pumps," Exelon said in a statement.
The 1,246-MW Limerick-1 continues to operate at 100% of capacity, the company said.
"Technicians will determine the cause of the malfunction and repair and fully test the system before returning the unit to service," Exelon said.
The company did not say when Limerick-2 is expected to return to service.
