Peruvian steelmakers produced 99,418 mt of rebar in March, up 13.5% from 87,591 mt in the year-ago month, National Institute of Statistics, or Inei, data showed Tuesday.
Month on month, rebar production increased 12.5%% from 88,328 mt of February. From January to March, Peruvian steelmakers produced 286,307 mt of rebar, up 17.4% from 243,786 mt of 2015.
Shipments decreased slightly in March to 105,937 mt from 107,090 mt in March 2015, a 1% difference. Month on month, they increased 6% from 99,884 mt. January to March, Peru shipped 307,436 mt of rebar, down 3% from 317,229 mt of 2015.
Peru's rebar market is primarily supplied by domestic longs producers, including Gerdau's Siderperu, with a rolling capacity of 1 million mt/year of bar, rebar and wire rod; and Aceros Arequipa, which can produce up to 1.3 million mt/year of bar, rebar, wire rod and profiles.
Rebar imports, mainly from Turkey, also are part of the mix.
