Chlorine production in the European Union, Norway and Switzerland in March fell 2.2% year on year to 803,921 mt, according to the latest data from industry body Eurochlor, published Wednesday.
Eurochlor does not publish production figures for caustic soda but the data implies a decrease in output of the chlorine coproduct to 908,431 mt in March.
Capacity utilization decreased from 80.6% in March 2015 to 79% in March 2016, Eurochlor reported.
Caustic soda stocks in March were 12.3% lower on the year at 233,043 mt, the data showed.
Caustic soda prices averaged $295/mt FOB NWE in March, 16.4% lower on the year.
